
Meet Our Director
Jack Johnson
Jack Johnson has served as the Director of Cincinnati Sound Chorus since August 2020, bringing artistic vision, musical excellence, and inspiring leadership to the ensemble. A respected vocalist, educator, and performer, Jack is known for his dynamic directing style, thoughtful musical interpretation, and deep commitment to singer development and ensemble growth.
In addition to his work with Cincinnati Sound Chorus, Jack serves as the Ziek Family Director of Music & Communications at Temple Sholom in Blue Ash, Ohio, where he leads worship music, oversees music programming, and strengthens community engagement through the arts.
Leadership & Achievements
Under Jack’s direction, Cincinnati Sound Chorus has experienced sustained competitive and artistic growth. Highlights include a first-place finish in Division AA and first place overall at the 2024 Harmony Heartland Regional Competition, earning the chorus a coveted invitation to compete at the Sweet Adelines International Competition in October 2025. There, CSC achieved an impressive 16th place international finish, marking a significant milestone on the global stage.
Jack is now guiding the chorus forward with a strategic focus on preparing for the 2026 Regional Competition and continued advancement beyond, emphasizing musical excellence, performance consistency, and long-term sustainability.
Jack earned Certified Director status in 2021, advanced to Certified Harmony 500 Director in 2022, and achieved Master Director distinction in 2023. In 2024, the chorus was also honored with the Most Improved Chorus Award. He is the founder of CSC’s annual Yuletide Celebration, now a cherished holiday tradition in the Cincinnati community.
Education & Musical Life
A Cincinnati native, Jack holds a Bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance and Music Education from Bethel College and pursued additional studies in Vocal Performance at Bellarmine University. He maintains an active private studio in voice and piano and has taught music in public and private schools both nationally and internationally.
Jack is currently enrolled in the Certified Arrangers Program with Sweet Adelines International and is creating new custom arrangements for Cincinnati Sound Chorus. An accomplished composer, pianist, guitarist, and vocalist, his most recent major work, Missa de Panamá, is completed and awaiting its premiere.
Outside of music, Jack enjoys musical theatre, travel, and time with his grey tabby, Hemingway.
